Garden Construction 2007 Edition

Our friends Walt Rickli, Virginia Burt, and Davee Gunn were here for a long, busy weekend of garden design and construction.  Every time we see them work, we are awe-struck.  Our garden is completely transformed.

Thank you so much for your friendship, talent, and generosity.  We live surrounded by beauty with you in our lives.

This year, the front garden was completed.  A second stone wall, more trees, many plantings.

And the centerpiece… a granite water sculpture created and installed by Walt.  Amazing.  It is perfect in every way.  Ever square inch of the surface runs with water.  It glints in the sun.  It takes your breath away from any viewpoint.

The side garden was completed as well.  It is richly planted, with a winding river of grass.

It includes a “found-art” piece by Virginia and Walt that started as a way to dampen the sound and hide the A/C units and turned into a gorgeous sculpture that will be covered with plants.  Made from old galvanized culvert piping, it provides a solid, architectural element that pairs with the monolith created last year from the old concrete step.

Finally, the structure of the rear garden was started.  Five giant Arborvitae and a new bed of shrubs await at the end of the side path.  Ideas are flowing for next year’s project to include an out-building for entertaining and other activities.  We can’t wait!
