A Stone and a Milestone

I spent the last couple of days in excrutiating pain.  My first kidney stone ever (hopefully my last as well, but not likely).  Thanks to some great IV pain meds at the emergency room and the stone passing last night, the agony is over.

And I also achieved a milestone today.  About 7 weeks ago, I started a beginner’s running program with a goal of running for 30 minutes by the end of 8 weeks.  Today, I ran 31 minutes straight at a better than 10min per mile pace.  Woohoo!

I’ve never really run before in my life, but I decided I needed to pick up a fitness habit that I could do almost anywhere, anytime.  By the time I was doing 20+ minute intervals last week, I knew I could add minutes faster than the program required.  So, 3.2 miles in 31 minutes today.  And I’ve been running 4-5 times a week plus walking most other days.  I know it is cliche, but I feel healthier and stronger already.  Now to make it a long-term habit.
