God Bless America!

April Fools Day seems an appropriate time to post this.  This country never fails to disappoint.  We just received the following in the mail:

Clea Sgewntu, of course, is Thania Clio Sgwentu, one of the South African girls staying with us.  She’s been offered a credit card with a $5000.00 limit, guaranteed.  All she has to do is send the coupon back, along with a $55.00 fee, and she’ll receive a card she can use immediately!

Ignore the fact that she is from South Africa and has been here for only 2 1/2 months, and will only be here for 2 1/2 more.  Ignore the fact that she has no income, other than the $20 allowance we give her each week.  Ignore the fact that she is 13.  Ignore the fact that they can’t even spell her name correctly – and that they are using a nickname as her first name.

Yes, I think I’ll just send the $55 along to them now and get myself a credit card under someone else’s name.  How long will it take them to track down the person who isn’t paying their bill?  Will they even send the card, or will they just keep the $55 and never send anything?

I think I’ll send this one along to Consumer Reports.
