I’m Jim Jarrett, an Interaction Architect in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve been dabbling with weblogs for a few years now.

If you’d like to know a bit about me, I’ve written a couple of articles where I squinted at myself from particular vantages: My Personal Vision and Autobiography: The College Years

One of the big adventures in my life has to do with South Africa.  Follow my journey here: South Africa

For those of you who are new to Manila style weblogs (‘blogs for short), I suggest you first read through Using This Site .

So, what is Interaction Architecture? In encompasses all those design disciplines involved in how a person or people interact and experience a product, particularly a product with a large software component. It is architecture, distinct from design or engineering, in that it approaches the interactive aspects of system development holistically, providing the context and constraints for all work on a system related to interaction.

Other terms that are related include Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Interface Design, User Experience Design, Human Interface Design, Human Factors, Usability Engineering, etc.

I prefer the phrase Interaction Architecture because it captures the entirety of interaction and its responsibility in systems development. It flows more easily on the tongue than HCI, however, I do mean it to include all the different elements of HCI.

For more information, see the ACM’s special interest group on Computer Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI).

Please tune in, and let’s make software a safer place for users!
